I wanted to share this because I feel she took the works out of my mouth!

Also wanted to share some other things that I have found.
I have been learning to master sewing. I am far from a pro but I feel I am making good progress. My girls & I have completed several projects. Including very pretty aprons as one of our 1st project. All the way to our project we are working on now. Little dresses. :) I have been working hard learning and teaching my girls but I was thinking I would love to make something with my son. I think it would be great if he knew a little something too. Wish me luck as we try a couple of projects together. Hopefully he will enjoying trying something new with me.http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=5676858000506520023

Another thing I would like to share is a very easy do it yourself project that will keep you cool the rest of the summer. http://moneysavingmom.com/2011/07/do-it-yourself-homemade-pop-bottle-sprinkler.html

Here is something you can do to prepare your kids for a great new year of school wheather your kids are homeschooled, go to private school or public school it would be good for them to do a little something over the summer to keep the brain going http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/states_experiment_drag-drop_Intermed_State15s_500.htm

Our longest journey to having another child!

When we started researching adoption and felt the calling to dive in, we knew it would be a long process. We also knew it would be an emotional roller coaster. I am not sure I really realized HOW LLooonnnnggg it would be. We started research about 2 yrs before we went and attended classes. Now it has been over nine months since we finished our classes. All three of my children that I have delivered came early so I guess in my head I was hoping this would be the same. Adoption is a very exciting journey. In some ways it is similar to being pregnant, I am so in love with a child I have never met. I can't wait to see his face & see his personality. I am already proud of him for the journey he has faced and I don't even have any idea what that is. I am looking forward to the day where I can look back at this day and be able to give him a hug & tell him how much it was so worth the wait. I guess it is also very much like a couple trying to get pregnant. I have never had this problem. My children are all 2yrs apart almost to the week. When I tell some one we have 3 children and one on the way I have already set in my mind, yes I have 3 kids but I am not done. I know it is going to be worth the wait just like that couple who finally got pregnant after trying for so long. Say a little prayer for my family in our journey & give the children you have a hug & make sure you don't take them for granted. I know I will be hugging mine & I won't be taking how easy it was  to get pregnant for them for granted either. I can't wait to be mommy of 4!

If you are living on beef & chicken for dinner & are still looking for ways to save!

If you are like me, you eat a lot of ground beef & chicken. Why? because it's cheap & we have to be now days. Well I wanted to share some tips I use to save money on your chicken & beef.

Looking for ways to stretch your dollar on chicken and beef meals?

Look at purchasing chicken breast with the bone in.  Try to buy any chicken with the bone in it. It is almost always cheaper with the bone in it. Cook it down in some water with bits of onions the leaves from your celery, carrots etc. When it's cooked and falling off the bone remove all chicken and vegetables from the water as you now have chicken broth.  Chill the broth so that the fat hardens on top and remove it. You can freeze it for later to use in recipes that call for water or broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Use the chicken about 1 breast is about the same amount as 1 can. Use it for chicken tacos, salads, enchiladas anywhere you use cooked canned chicken.
You can do the same with lower cost beef too.  the broth makes great soups.  I use both with bbq (homemade) sauce for pulled meat sandwiches.

I like to use the chicken pieces for Quesadillas & I shred pepper jack cheese. Yummy!
I enjoy using the chicken broth in my big batch of vegetable soup. mmmmm sometimes I add noodles or rice too.
For the beef I don't do it as much but the broth really does go well with my veg. beef stew. The more you try new ways of cooking the more you enjoy it & find your own twist on it. Plus you can find more ways to save money.

I will add more on future posts! Enjoy!

Recycling stuff!

Be creative!
Instead of the landfill, Recycle it! Recycling is not hard!

For example, if you do not use reusable bags when you go shopping, take plastic grocery bags back to the supermarket or  save them for bathroom trash cans, dad's lunches, wet clothes, baby diaper disposal, stuffing when you mail something or when you are moving. Use them for picking up poo when you walk your dog or cleaning out the cats litter box. Some thrift stores or food banks except them too. You can even do crafts with them.  http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/09/15/large-plastic-market-bag/

Another simple thing you can do is take the dry cleaner hangers back to the dry cleaner.
 (I don't have this problem)

You can recycle your used inkjet printer or laser printer cartridges to manufacturer or school fundraising program. or do what I do & take them to some office supply stores & get a discounts.

Here are some crative things you could do... turn an old golf bag with wheels into a garden- tool caddy or umbrella stand. Or "plant" your old mailbox in your garden for storing hand tools.

We also save all of our aluminum cans in a big trash can outside so we can turn it in.
One of my children's chores is to take the composed out. We use an old ice cream bucket & fill it with peelings, eggshells,  Etc.  We have a spot on the back of our property that it gets dumped. Also now that we have chickens, we give old bread to them. I also use old towel to clean up spills instead of paper towels (we do have them, but I use them sparingly)

Our town also has recycling bins so we have a can next to our trash can in the house to make it easy to divide it into trash or recycling.

So much you could do.....

or some even seem like crazy ideas!!!! But if it works for you do it......

I will be posting more on this in the future! Enjoy the earth & the things in it!

(Play Dough) some will surprise you

 HOMEMADE!!!!!!

Non-Cook Play Dough
This recipe can be made by children.  Make sure they know to mix it well.

food coloring
In a bowl, add 1 1/4 cups flour and salt.  Mix.  Add the water and some food coloring together.  Mix.  Place in the flour mixture.  Mix together with a spoon (or your hands).  If it is too sticky, add more flour.   Store in covered container or a sealable plastic bag in the refrigerator.
Note:
This will not last as long as the cooked play dough.

Play Dough
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup hot water
A few drops of food coloring

1 cup rolled oats.
In a large bowl, mix peanut butter, honey, and powdered milk together. Knead until smooth. (Add more powdered milk if you need to.) Mold dough into any shape you wish.

1 cup powdered sugar
3 cups powdered milk

Additions: Add cornmeal in small quantity for texture, Add coffee grounds in small quantity for texture.

Frosting Dough

1 Can Frosting Mix
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup Peanut Butter
Mix all ingredients in bowl with spoon. Knead into workable dough. Model as with any dough.

Playdough

2 1/2 cups flour
1 Tablespoon alum
1/2 cup salt
3 Tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups boiling water
1 package unsweetened Kool-aid
Combine flour, alum, salt, add oil, boiling water. Stir or kneed to mix. Add food coloring or before liquids, add a package of unsweetened Kool-aid for color and scent.

No Fuss Play Dough
1 cup cold water
1 cup salt
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Food coloring
In a large bowl, mix together water, salt, oil and a few drops of food coloring. Mix flour and cornstarch and add 1/2 cup at a time, stirring constantly (you may need a little more or a little less than 2 cups flour so make sure you stir in until it is the right consistency). Knead for a few minutes with flour on your hands.

Cooked Play Dough
3 cups flour
1 cup salt
6 teaspoons cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Food coloring
Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan. Blend water and oil together in a bowl. Add to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Add several drops of food coloring until you get the right color. Cook for about five minutes. Take the play dough out of the saucepan and put it on a cutting board or counter and knead for a few minutes. Add flour if it’s too sticky.
This play dough should last around three months if you keep it sealed in an airtight container or plastic Ziploc bag. It’s so smooth and fun to play with when it’s still warm.

Smelly Tip: For nice smelling play dough, add a few drops of vanilla extract, almond extract, or peppermint extract to any of these play dough recipes.

Activity:
Have your child/children cut out different shapes using cookie cutters, lids, or whatever else you can think of. You don't have to over think it, just have fun with it!

We have not tried all of these recipes- still in the experimenting process & having a blast!

The secret is WITCH HAZEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 Uses for Witch Hazel

1. The big one: Spot and blemish control

Witch hazel can reduce the inflammation on a pimple. Some people claim daily use helps with acne, and witch hazel can be found in many over-the-counter treatments. You can dab it on with a cotton ball. Ask your pharmacist before you do this, though.

2. Soothe and heal diaper rash

If your baby's rash isn't healing quick enough, apply witch hazel solution with a cotton ball and you should see immediate improvement to your baby's bottom.

3. Shrink bags under the eyes

Some people say that the application of hemorrhoid cream to those little baggies under your eyes can take them away. It's not an old wives' tale. One of the magic ingredients in a product like Preparation H is witch hazel, which helps tighten up the skin and reduce the bagginess.

4. Soothe and reduce external hemorrhoids

Not only does witch hazel tighten skin, it's also a good anti-itch remedy. By combining witch hazel with aloe, glycerine or petroleum jelly and rub it on external hemorrhoids, you will reduce itching significantly and dry up most bleeding.

5. Varicose vein relief

Soak wash cloths in witch hazel and lay on legs, which are propped straight out, to reduce pain and swelling from varicose veins. The witch hazel helps to tighten the veins, relieving the discomfort temporarily.

6. Soothe poison ivy and poison oak

Just like acne and blemishes, the witch hazel reduces itching and relieves swelling. Something definitely worth packing on your next camping trip.

7. Treat chicken pox blisters

A combination of aloe, honey, lavender and other essential oils create a spray that will vastly reduce the discomfort of chicken pox blisters. And it's all-natural. Here's what to do:
Mix together 1 tablespoon honey, 40 drops lavender essential oil, 15 drops lemon essential oil, 15 drops bergamot essential oil, 5 drops peppermint essential oil, 1 teaspoon carrot seed oil and 1/2 cup aloe vera gel.
Once completely mixed, and 1/2 cup distilled witch hazel and mix again. Pour mixture into spray bottle and use on affected areas (avoiding eyes). A more potent and less unsightly way to treat the chicken pox than traditional calamine lotion.

8. Heal your bruises faster

Been in a fight recently? Well, maybe not. But if you bang your leg or arm and are left with a nasty bruise, a daily dab of witch hazel can help speed up the healing time of the bruise.

9. Soothe razor burn (and in some instances, prevent it)

The anti-inflammatory properties of witch hazel stop itchy bumps from forming up around your irritated hair follicles. Apply before or after shaving; it should certainly have an impact on your itchy red skin (and that includes ladies, too).

10. Treat and soothe a nasty sunburn

Healing damaged skin is one of witch hazel's specialties. But as sunburn is also a type of skin inflammation, witch hazel is ideal for treating this too (despite swelling not being obvious). Treating sunburn with witch hazel will lessen healing time and prevent the infamous skin peeling and flaking.

11. Treat dry skin

By applying witch hazel immediately after showering, you are locking in the moisture that has just soaked into your skin.

12. Use to heal and soothe various cuts and bruises

Many chemists and pharmacists refer to witch hazel as nature's answer to Neosporin. Applying a dab of it will cleanse the cut, protects against infection, and encourage quicker healing of minor skin breaks.

13. Take the bite out of bug bites

With its anti-itch and anti-inflammatory properties, witch hazel is ideal for treating bug bites. Just dab a little on the affected area.

14. Refresh tired eyes

NOT by squirting witch hazel in them, but by soaking a clean rag in witch hazel and cold water and placing the cold compress over your closed eyes. After 10 minutes, your eyes should be refreshed, and any redness should be gone. If you've been doing a lot of crying, this can get you back to normal quickly.

15. Make your own deodorant

Witch hazel is often used in deodorants due to its natural skin-healing and skin-care properties. Here is a home-made recipe you may want to try.
Ingredients
  • 1 tsp high proof vodka
  • 10 drops geranium
  • 10 drops cypress
  • 8 drops bergamot
  • 5 drops neroli
  • 4 drops lavender
  • 3 drops black pepper
  • 4 tb sp (40 ml) witch hazel
  • 2 tb sp (25 ml) cornflower water
  • 2 tb sp (25 ml) orange flower water
  1. Measure the vodka into a 4 oz (100 ml) glass bottle with a spray attachment.

  2. Carefully add the essential oils, one by one.

  3. Shake vigorously to dissolve the essential oils.

  4. Pour the witch hazel into the bottle, using a funnel if necessary, followed by the two flower waters. Shake well.

  5. Label the bottle and the deodorant is now ready to use.

  6. Before you use the deodorant each time, give the bottle a good shake to ensure the essential oils are fully dispersed.

Note

As with many herbal remedies, certain people, like women who are pregnant or breast feeding, should talk to their physician before using witch hazel. When using witch hazel, let your doctor know if you experience leg swelling, breathing problems, chest tightness or pain, hives, new rashes or irritations, nausea, upset stomach, vomiting or constipation. Most people who use witch hazel will not experience these adverse side effects, but some will, so notify a health official if any problems are noticed.

Being a Mother!!!!!

Be a blessing to your children, just as a child is a blessing to their mother!

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.  ~Washington Irving

Involve your Kids!!!! Chores are not going to kill them!

Part of our job as a parent is to train our children how to be adults. If you have ever walked in to a Walmart then you know some parent didn't do a very good job LOLhttp://youtu.be/YvxNgdFeWqM Besides some of those issues, we need to make sure our children can survive as adults. They need to know responsibility. They need to know simply things like how to cook, clean, how to shop (lol) on a budget. I know some people think my kids have a lot of chores but it is nothing that doesn't need to be done or that they don't need to learn. They really don't complain about doing their chores ( We have trained them from day one) We always revamp the chores now & then so they continue doing age appropriate things. Taking out the trash, feeding the dogs, or cleaning up their rooms is NOT to much for children. My children do have many more than that but any kid even as young as 1 or 2 can learn to clean up after themselves. Kids also need to learn that money does not grow on trees (because trust me it doesn't!) So my opinion on allowance is my kids don't get it! When they are living on their own no one is going to give them a dollar when they make their beds. Now everyone does need to remember they are kids and are supposed to be having fun. So when my kids were little we always tried to make it fun, we would turn up the music & dance around while we picked up the house. Also  I make my own cleaners so they are safe for kids to use (& cheap) so the "fun" chores like washing the windows, I would put some stuff in spray bottles, give them a cloth & let them spray away. This would always get them in the cleaning "mood" They always wanted to help me. Because we started them young, it has became a routine and they know what we expect of them. We have a list on the wall of all of their chores & they know that mom or dad can rearrange that or ask them to do more. Because we have a lot of animals, the children have also learned how to love & take care of someone other than themselves. Even if they are 10 & you have never gave them something to do, it's not too late. Get started! Make sure you praise them & give them the pat on the back they deserve & don't be too picky. If your 3yr old is trying very hard to make her bed & it is not how you would do it, don't criticize or redo it. That will only make her not try next time because she will feel that she will never be as good as you want her to be. Do a trail and error or a practice run. make a list of what needs to be done & have the kids pick the ones they want to do. (if they are fighting over one or two than explain that you will be doing this again tomorrow & that everyone will get a chance to do all of the chores. After they have their jobs picked out. Let them do them & see who is ok & who need to adjust their jobs. Soon the children & you will know what they are able to do and what they are not. For those of you thinking I don't know what jobs to give them, here are some examples.... (there are always things that need to be done).......
make bed
set table
fold laundry
feed pets
take out trash
vaccum
sweep
empty the dishwasher
THE LIST GOES ON & ON...........
What ever you have them do or what ever their age remember to praise for things done. That is a good thing to do everyday anyway.

VINEGAR!

Kitchen Remedies: Besides adding zest to salad dressings, white vinegar is handy for many cooking tasks.
1. Adding a few tablespoons of white vinegar to the water when poaching eggs helps the whites stay formed. Add a few tablespoons to the water when boiling eggs, and if any shells crack, the whites won’t leak out.
2. If your leafy veggies are wilted, soaking them in cold water with a little vinegar can perk them right up.
3. After chopping an onion, you can eliminate the odor from your hands by rubbing them with a bit of white vinegar.
4.When cooking any vegetables from the cabbage family (like broccoli or cauliflower), adding a little vinegar to the water will perk up the taste and reduce the gassiness they can induce.

Cleaning House: Vinegar can help with a variety of cleaning tasks, since the acid acts as a disinfectant and an odor neutralizer.
5. Clean and deodorize the garbage disposal by mixing equal parts vinegar and baking soda and putting it down the drain. After letting this fizzing mixture sit for a few minutes, flush out the drain with warm water for a clean and stink-free sink.
6. The steam from a boiling a bowl of vinegar and water can loosen caked-on food and get rid of odors in the microwave, too.
7. weapon against fruit flies is to set out a small dish of white vinegar and some smashed fruit, covered with plastic wrap with some holes in it–the flies crawl into the trap, but can’t get out.
8. If your stemware is cloudy from the dishwasher, wrap the glasses in paper towels soaked in vinegar, let them sit, and the cloudy deposits will rinse right off.
9. There’s no need to use bleach on tile grouting when you can let vinegar soak on it and then scrub with a toothbrush.
10. Bring lightly scuffed or dirty DVDs back to life by wiping them down with some vinegar on a soft cloth.
11. If you have water condensation marks on your wood, just rub the piece of furniture with equal parts vinegar and vegetable oil to remove them. Make sure to rub with the grain, and then invest in a set of coasters.

Cleaning Clothes: Vinegar works magic on upholstery and fabric, too.
12. If a child has an “accident” on a mattress, clean it with a solution of vinegar and water. Afterwards, pour some baking soda onto the mattress, and brush or vacuum the residue once it’s dry.
13. Spraying vinegar onto deodorant-stained shirts before the wash can remove the discoloration. It’s also great for fighting mustard, tomato sauce, or ketchup stains.
14. Adding a cupful of vinegar to the rinse cycle of your washing machine can freshen up bright colors and give you cleaner laundry. Acetic acid won’t harm fabrics, but it dissolves the soap residue that can dull dark clothing. It also acts as a fabric softener, a static reducer, and a mildew-inhibitor.
15. Vinegar will also loosen chewing gum stuck to car upholstery, rugs, and carpeting.

Outdoor Solutions:
Tough enough even for the outdoors, vinegar can function as a car cleaner and an organic pest remover.
16. If your car still sports a bumper sticker from two elections ago, remove it by spraying the decal with white vinegar to saturate the area, and the sticker will peel off in a few hours. (You might need to spray it a few times.)
17. Wiping down your car windows and windshield with a three-to-one vinegar-water mixture can keep them frost-free in the wintertime.
18. Kill weeds and crabgrass growing in sidewalks and driveways by pouring vinegar onto them. A half-and-half solution of vinegar and water can even kill garden slugs if it’s sprayed directly onto them.
19. To extend the life of cut flowers, add a few tablespoons of vinegar to the water in their vase, along with a teaspoon of sugar.

Pet Protection:
There’s no need to use chemicals near pets when vinegar can handle most cleaning and bathing tasks.
20. Wipe out itchy ears with undiluted vinegar to keep dogs and cats from scratching at them.
21. Cats avoid vinegar, so to keep them from scratching furniture or sitting on certain areas, spray a vinegar solution onto the spot.
22. For outdoor areas, soak a cloth in vinegar and place it in the forbidden area to keep cats away. If kitty likes to mark his territory, spraying the area with vinegar can help eliminate the smell and deter recurrences.
23. Vinegar also gets rid of skunk odor. Soak the animal with a half-and-half vinegar and water solution, and then rinse with fresh water.
Vinegar can disinfect, deodorize, and de-gunkify just about everything. From shower curtains to sofa cushions, there’s not much that it can’t do. As an alternative to expensive and harsh cleaning chemicals, vinegar is something you can feel good about keeping in your cupboards. White vinegar and baking soda can even remove product buildup from hair and leave it soft and manageable. A product that can clean you, the dog, your car, and your house is what I’d call a good, green buy.

Baking soda!!!!!!!!

Personal

Freshen your mouth
Put one teaspoon in half a glass of water, swish, spit, and rinse. Odors are neutralized, not just covered up.
Soak oral appliance
Soak oral appliances (like retainers, mouthpieces, and dentures) in a solution of 2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in a glass or small bowl of warm water. The baking soda loosens food particles and neutralizes odors to keep appliances fresh. You can also brush appliances clean using baking soda.
Use as a facial scrub and body exfoliate
Give yourself an invigorating facial and body scrub. Make a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Rub in a gentle circular motion to exfoliate the skin. Rinse clean. This is gentle enough for daily use.
Use as an antacid
Baking soda is a safe and effective antacid to relieve heartburn, sour stomach, and/or acid indigestion. Refer to baking soda package for instructions.
Treat insect bites and itchy skin
For insect bites, make a paste out of baking soda and water, and apply as a salve onto affected skin. To ease the itch, shake some baking soda into your hand and rub it into damp skin after bath or shower.
Make a hand cleanser and softener
Skip harsh soaps and gently scrub away ground-in dirt and neutralize odors on hands with a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water or 3 parts baking soda with gentle liquid hand soap. Then rinse clean. (This works wonderful on men's hands too!)
Help your hair
Vinegar is amazing for your hair, but baking soda has its place in the shower too. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda into your palm along with your favorite shampoo. Shampoo as usual and rinse thoroughly — baking soda helps remove the residue that styling products leave behind so your hair is cleaner and more manageable.
Make a bath soak
Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your bath to neutralize acids on the skin and help wash away oil and perspiration. It also makes your skin feel very soft. Or just focus on soothing your feet. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of baking soda in a tub of warm water and soak feet. Gently scrub.

Cleaning

Make a surface soft scrub
For safe, effective cleaning of bathroom tubs, tile, and sinks — even fiberglass and glossy tiles — sprinkle baking soda lightly on a clean damp sponge and scrub as usual. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. For extra cleaning power, make a paste with baking soda, coarse salt, and liquid dish soap — let it sit then scour off.
Clean the oven
Sprinkle baking soda onto the bottom of the oven. Spray with water to dampen the baking soda. Let sit overnight. In the morning, scrub, scoop the baking soda and grime out with a sponge, or vacuum, and rinse.
Clean floors
Remove dirt and grime (without unwanted scratch marks) from no-wax and tile floors using 1/2 cup baking soda in a bucket of warm water — mop and rinse clean for a sparkling floor. For scuff marks, use baking soda on a clean damp cloth, then rinse.
Clean furniture
Clean and remove marks (even crayon) from walls and painted furniture by applying baking soda to a damp sponge and rubbing lightly. Wipe off with a clean, dry cloth. (make your own magic eraser)
Clean cars
Use baking soda to clean your car lights, chrome, windows, tires, vinyl seats, and floor mats without worrying about unwanted scratch marks. Use a baking soda solution of 1/4 cup baking soda in 1 quart of warm water. Apply with a soft cloth to remove road grime, tree sap, bugs, and tar. For stubborn stains use baking soda sprinkled on a damp cloth or soft brush. Eliminate odors by sprinkling baking soda directly on fabric car seats and carpets. Wait 15 minutes (or longer for strong odors) and vacuum up the baking soda.

Deodorizing

Deodorize drains and garbage disposals
To deodorize your sink and tub drains and garbage disposal and keep lingering odors from resurfacing, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain while running warm tap water — it will neutralize both acid and basic odors for a fresh drain. (This a good way to dispose of baking soda that is being retired from your refrigerator.)
Deodorize and clean dishwashers
Use baking soda to deodorize before you run the dishwasher and then as a gentle cleanser in the wash cycle.
Remove odor from carpets
Liberally sprinkle baking soda on the carpet. Let set overnight or as long as possible (the longer it sets the better it works). Sweep up the larger amounts of baking soda, and vacuum up the rest. (Note that your vacuum cleaner bag will get full and heavy.) An added bonus: You'll also deodorize your vacuum cleaner.
Scrub fruits and vegetables
Baking soda is the food safe way to clean dirt and residue off fresh fruit and vegetables. Just sprinkle a little on a clean damp cloth, scrub and rinse.

Did you know there are other ways to save money other than coupons?

Some people don't have access to the Sunday paper. Some places don't take coupons. Some people feel they have no time for coupons or that they wouldn't remember to use them even if they took the time to cut them out. So today I want to focus on ways to save money other than clipping & saving & organizing & remembering to use coupons.
One way to get ahead is to make sure you are not using more than you need to. Sometimes people waste a lot with out even knowing it. Take water for example, I am on well so I don't think about my water as being a bill but really I should because when I take a 30 minute shower I have to factor in the electric from the hot water tank & the water pump. But thinking in simple things, you can save a lot in water if you turn off the water when you brush your teeth. Also we have to think about where we can sacrifice & when we can't. When we wash our hands, we have to make sure they are clean so if you have to leave the water on for a little longer than that would be ok. Another thing to think of is electric, if you are not in a room it is ok to turn off the fan & light. Hook it up to a switch and you can just flip it off as you walk out of a room. I also think of food as sometimes being a waste. If you don't eat all of the food you made for dinner & you know you are not going to be in the mood for it tomorrow than think of freezing the left over. That will be a good way not to waste and so the next night you don't know what to make, you can have left over night with all those left overs in the freezer. I also take all my left over veges and ziplock bag them together so when I want to make a big pot of soup, I can just open the bags and pour them in.
In our family we also save money by doing our own hair cuts. I am the barber of my house and it seems to work out just fine.  We also take care of our own lawn. My husband is wonderful, he keeps it mowed, trimmed, and so on. We groom our dogs & bird instead of paying someone else. I also rarely pay for a babysitter even though I am extremely picky who watches my kids. I find  someone who I trust such as family or a friend who I can trade babysitting with. You shouldn't ever trade safety of your children for money! If you are going to town to run errands think ahead so you don't have to make many trips. Gas is a big one to save since you never know when they will be raising prices. We also wash our own cars. We eat at home almost all of the time. I try not to buy too many foods in boxes and make it from scratch. You would be surprised how much money you could save just by making a couple more meals at home. Flour & sugar is going to be cheaper since you can use it over and over again. The boxed meals are ok but they will feed your family for only one meal. Also I homeschool my oldest, I have never paid a bunch of money on high priced curriculum. My favorite place to get materials is www.freecycle.org or thrift stores. Free or very cheap! I also like to trade or borrow from friends. You could even go on ebay or other websites.
If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate. There will be lots more on this subject!

coupons- why not? - why pay full price????

So I know some people get lots of coupons for grocery but what about everything else. I try not to ever buy anything full price. If we go out to eat once in a while, I must have a coupon! I get my coupons from lots of different places. One good place is go directly to their website. We don't eat out much but when we do my husband knows I will give him a choice of all the places where I have coupons. So I wanted to share this link. http://printable-coupons.blogspot.com/ I buy a lot at thrift stores. But this is if you buy from pay less, old navy, etc. I will have more post on thrift store shopping. Also here is a link for other things http://thekrazycouponlady.com/coupons-com/ I used some of these today when I saved over $80 including the Dole salad which Winn Dixie has on sale right now. Hope you are saving money in your every day life! Remember before you buy anything, think..... DIHAC!  (Do I have a coupon)  LOL ok that is not going to make you save money, but if you think before you buy, you will save money.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn, Brookie, Brooke no matter what you call her she is a special girl. She has been through a lot medically. She is a tuffy for sure. When I was pregnant for her we didn't find out the sex of our baby. So when she came out & they said It's a girl, I was so happy. I wanted another girl especially after having a boy. She was a special package from the moment she was born. When she was only 7months old she was admitted into the hospital. She was had a UTI. After she was put on medicine & diagnosed with Urinal Reflex with a double ureter she was on meds until she was four. But was she was 3 she went back in the hospital to get surgery on her bladder & kidneys. The surgery worked and she has only had 1 or 2 UTIs since which is extremely good since she was having multiply. She was a good girl all the time even when she was sick which seemed to be a lot. She even had a smile on her face when she woke up from surgery. She was so swollen and she was hooked up to so many machines. Thankfully she doesn't even have to see the specialist anymore. Since then she has been diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism and is on a daily injection to help her grow. At first it was very difficult. I am so glad she is so good with doctors. She is very independent when it comes to doctor's appointments. She answers all the questions with a smile & getting weighed & measured is always a highlight. Since being on the meds to help her, she has grown over 4inches. She continues to see her regular doctor & her growth specialist. I am so proud of her. She has grown up and matured so much in the last year. I kinda miss my baby girl who I could carry around. But I love the little lady she is becoming.

YJ

Our son - YJ, He is my lil man. When he was born, I was so happy. I then had a boy & a girl. Some said that was the perfect family & that we should be done. We agreed that we had a wonderful family but as for not having any more children that is not what we thought nor did God. He is so smart and loves to read. He has always been a wonderful student. When he was younger, he had so much energy. I didn't know how to cope. I would pray and pray about how to handle his behavior. Since I had only had a girl and a very mellow girl at that, I tried everything. When he turned four he had finally finished his terrible twos LOL But now he is still a typical boy (loves to pick on his sisters) But I don't have too many behavior problems out of him. He is my sweet boy. When he started school, he made it even more apparent where his energy had went. He is a very focused student and can not wait to be homeschooled full time. For now he just enjoys me teaching him over the summer & is in the gifted program in his school. Gifted students are basically labeled and as we go year to year I wonder sometimes if it was completely a good thing for my kids to start the gifted classes. Even though they learn in different ways than other students, it is a lot of pressure on them to live up to the expectation of the rest of the school. Overall it seems to be good. Since he is such a bright child, it makes for a easy teaching time on my part. He absorbs everything I teach him. I see big things in his future. Besides loving to read, he is extremely good on the computer. He knows his way around websites and has helped me in some cases. If you have any questions about being labled as "GIFTED" please let me know.

Bug

Kaitlyn- (nickname Katie Bug)  My oldest, My ginnypig of sorts. She was born to young parents and was raised in a strict but very loving way. She has grown up with us in a sense. She has made us much better people. & She has a gift for touching people's life. She has always loved to write. This is her favorite thing to do even today. As I homeschool her, I incorporate writing in creative ways to integrate her love for it. Homeschooling has always been the way I wanted to go. But being a christian woman & a married woman, my timing is not always when thing get done or started. I got serious about researching homeschooling 2 years before we even got started. http://youtu.be/rIOogqa-5GA     I wanted to be sure that I would be able to effectively teach my children. I knew my children would enjoy staying home with me and learning at home since I was always a mother that was very structural with activities with the kids. I started first homeschooling over the summer. As I did this & the children reacted in a wonderful way. My love for teaching them at home grew. When we place Kaitlyn into a public middle school, I was nervous but didn't want her to be so I hid it from her. I tried to make it a exciting time for her.  She & us only made it through the 1st quarter before we made our finally decision about pulling her out and homeschooling. She is extremely bright and has always been in gifted classes. After starting the 1st week and having her home with me, I knew we had made the right choice. We do take it yr by yr. I would love to keep going through high school but we will have to see. We only took her out at this time and have chosen to start each child as they move into middle school. I still continue to homeschool all three over the summer. I would love to chat with people about homeschooling or answer questions about getting started. I am not really anti public school as I still have 2 in the public school system. I really love their school. I don't believe everyone is meant to homeschool. I know many families who their children would do worse at home than at a public school. We have never done any type of private school so I can not say much about that. We didn't chose that route because we felt God was saying homeschool was a better option for our family. Not to mention the fact of the money issue. I have to say a big thank you to all my homeschool friends who have helped in guiding us in our 1st year of this journey. Kaitlyn is excelling being homeschooled. We all love this option! Lots more on Homeschooling to come in future posts.

My Rugrats!

So the next few posts will be about my little angels! (most of the time) I want to give you an overview on them in this post. I have a 12yr old daughter named Kaitlyn who I homeschool (& love it) She is going into the 7th grade. My son is 10yrs old. I like to call him YJ. He goes to public school & is starting the full time gifted fifth grade class in Aug. Brooklyn is my youngest daughter. She is 8 yrs. old. She is my tuffy. She also goes to public school. She will be going into 3rd grade. I also homeschool over the summer very casually. Before I get hate mail, They have lots of play time & "field trips" My kids really like doing school with me & I enjoy doing it. I understand that it is "summerbreak" & kids need to have fun. They learn extra things that classrooms with 25 kids don't have time to get to. Including the fun stuff- cooking, arts, music & such. We are also in the process of adopting another child. There will be more post on that in the future. My husband & I have made our children a priority from the beginning. I guess you can say parenthood suited us. We have always wanted kids & always had a love for kids. Even at a young age, getting started we just wanted to do the right things with our children. When we made the decision for me to stay home with them, we both wondered how we would pay the bills. When people would ask us how we were doing it we told them the truth, "we don't do it, God does" Just like raising our kids, being 2 yrs apart almost to the week. It isn't always easy but we are committed. When I had my 3rd child, I would be nursing her while chasing my 2yr old son, & making sure my 4 yr old didn't feel left out. (Kaitlyn has always been my big helper) Since they are getting older now, I look back on some of the blurry days that I would be exhausted. Now even though some of the trials & error stuff that we went though as a family is gone, we have new stages of our life & with our kids to go through. A house with kids is never boring! I love being a mom!

ENDLESS CHORES!!!!!

As a child I remember having chores to do. As I got older I still had chores but There were more of them, they were different, & my parents expected it to be done better than when I was younger. I recall a day when I was real young & I was wishing I was a "grown up" so I could be the boss & not have anymore chores. I laugh as I sit back and think of this now. Since my children do have chores (a lot from what I am told by people outside my family) But somehow I still have endless chores everyday. Some days, I turn up the music & get things done with joy in my step and a smile on my face. Other days, I sit there looking at the things that need to be done & dread getting started. I have realized how having chores as a child really does prepare kids for adulthood. Every now & then I call my mother just to tell her thanks & to tell her how amazing she is. I don't remember any complaining (maybe I just forgot that part LOL) All I know is it shows me how important things are and the lessons you learn when you are a child really do help you in the real world. Now that my oldest daughter is 12yrs. old and could basically run the kitchen on her own, I enjoy watching how much she enjoys doing the "simple" things (making a cake from scratch) . All I can do now is hope she continues with the joy in her step. Even on my bad days, I love my job! I love staying home with my kids! I enjoy watching them learn new things and the smile they get when the realize how proud I am of them. It makes them want to do more. All three of them are my helpers. They all have different things to do. They love using my homemade cleaners. & I don't have to be worried about them using them. In my next post, I am going to include several of my favorite recipes for cleaning. Making these have also saved us a ton of money. I don't remember the last time I bought a multipurpose cleaner or a bottle of Windex. I hope you can experiment a bit & see what works for you. Not everything works for everyone! Ok now back to making dinner, then to folding laundry :)

Money you can't live with it, & you can't live with out it!

Money is always such a huge topic. People worry about it, people spend it, people fight over it, some even throw it away. Being a part of a one income family, I can say freely we are not rich in cash. But I know I have so many more blessings than some who are considered rich. There are so many times that I have wished our world was not wrapped around the green monster. Yes I say Monster since that is really what it makes humans become. I wanted to see what God really wanted us to do with this crazy stuff that drives us all nuts but that we all need in our life. Besides the stuff that people talk about often - giving tithes & such. So after lots of prayer I did some digging & research, I realized that he says a lot in the Bible about it. Well instead of quoting you all these verses that I found I figured I would just pick out a few and you could open your book & search out more.

Hebrew 13:5 Keep your life free from the love of money & be content with what you have.
Proverbs 22:7 The rich rules over the poor, & the borrower becomes the lender's slave.
Proverbs 22:26-27 Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.
Ecclesiastes 5:5 It is better that you should not vow than that you vow & then shall not pay.
Romans Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another, for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Proverbs 23:4 Do not weary yourself to gain wealth cease from your consideration of it.
Proverbs 28:19-20 He who tills his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty. A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.

So how many times have you wished that you & your debtors or you & your spouse didn't have to have the money talks. It is never fun & sometimes it feels like hell but when you stop what you are doing & look around you, you may be more content than you knew. Stop counting down the days until payday & start counting your blessings!
